LASG EMPOWERS MORE FARMERS FOR IMPROVED FOOD PRODUCTION AND SECURITY
In line with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to ensuring food security through improved production techniques, reducing unemployment, hunger and poverty, and creating sustainable socioeconomic lives for the people of Lagos State, the government, through the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), has trained a total number of two hundred youths and farmers from Imota Local Council Development Area and Epe Local Government in fish production, management and processing.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Yekinni Lanre-Agbaje, expressed the determination of the government to eradicate hunger and poverty in Lagos state through consistent training and retraining, and Empowerment of the youths; promising further necessary assistance to those who make good use of the Empowerment materials given to them.

Speaking in a similar vein, the Director, CERUD, Mr Musibau Muyiwa Balogun, admonished the participants to see the programme as a unique opportunity to gain knowledge from the expertise of the seasoned and experienced facilitators offered by the training to enhance their socioeconomic stability and to enjoy a more vibrant life and livelihood.

He stated further that a feedback mechanism has been put in place to determine the impact of the programme and to discover other levels of intervention that may be required in future.

Responding, some of the visibly elated participants were full of praises to Mr Governor and his team for these uncommon gestures, and promising to leverage on the knowledge gained to positively transform their lives, and to contribute meaningfully to the socioeconomic transformation of Lagos State.

The participants were taking through theoretical and practical sessions on fish breeding, hatching, production, management, harvesting and processing. Fifty (50) beneficiaries each from Imota LCDA and Epe Local Government were later provided with fish tanks, fish kilns and fish feed.

LASG TRAINS AND EMPOWERS YOUTHS ON APICULTURE. 

To ensure the productive engagement of the youths, and to broaden their knowledge about alternative sources of income and wealth creation without resorting to criminality, the Lagos State Government, through the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD) has trained and empowered about fifty (50) youths from Epe rural division of the state on Honeybee production and management (Apiculture).

Addressing participants at a one day training, the Director/CEO, CERUD, Mr Musibau Muyiwa Balogun, pointed out the limitless opportunities that are available in the production of honey for commercial purposes, affirming the availability of a ready market.

Elaborating on the love and commitment of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to the welfare and the upliftment of the socioeconomic life of the youths, Mr Balogun charged the participants to make good use of the empowerment materials given to them in order to justify government’s investment on them, and to create a better living for themselves.

While thanking the government of Mr Sanwo-Olu for his sustained engagements and interventions in the affairs of the youths and farmers in the State, the Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Lagos State chapter, Dr Femi Oke also advised the participants to explore creative ways of making their products excel in the market, confirming the huge market potentials for honey both locally and internationally.

Responding, Mrs Titi Adeaga, one of the participants thanked CERUD and the Lagos State Government for the opportunity, promising to expand the frontiers of the knowledge acquired at the training to enhance her income earning capacity.

The participants were supplied with a metal stand, wooden beehive, smoker, protective bee clothing, face veil and a pair of boots each.

LAGOS OFFICIALS INSPECT ROAD CONSTRUCTION IN AMIKANLE
A team of Lagos State officials from the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development and the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD) has carried out an inspection tour of the ongoing road Construction work on Erelu way, Amikanle in Agbado-Okeodo Local Council Development Area (LCDA).The inspection tour of the 1.3km long road is aimed at determining the level of compliance with established standard as specified in the contract agreement, evaluate the progress of work done and its impact on the residents of the community and to ensure value for money expended.Speaking on behalf of the community, the Baale of Amikanle, High Chief Akeem Oladejo expressed gratitude to the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu for bringing the project to his community, explaining that the multiplier effect and the developmental impact of the project on the community will forever be cherished.He, however, decried the slow pace of work on the project while appealing to the monitoring team and the contractor to expedite action towards a speedy completion of the road. Responding on behalf of the visiting team, the leader of the technical team from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Engr. Onafuwa assured the people of the community that efforts will be intensified to ensure that the project is speedily completed while appealing to them to be patient and cooperate with the contractor. The road which is nearing 50% completion with the construction of drainages will facilitate easy access and reduce traffic time within and around the community, improve socio-economic activities and livelihoods of residents, enhance security and attract investment to the community, towards strengthening the THEMES plus Agenda of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

LASG EMPOWERS ANOTHER SET OF YOUTHS
To ensure self-reliance and improved livelihood for the youths, women and farmers in Lagos State; and to facilitate rapid socio economic development in all part of the state, a new set of beneficiaries have been train byed and empowered with necessary tools to improve their businesses.At a one-day training on Aquaculture organized by the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), the participants, who were drawn from Lagos Island and Badagry divisions, were exposed to various aspects of fish farming such as fingerling production, fish breeding, management, harvesting, processing, smoking, storage, marketing, and how to mitigate risk and secure their investments.Speaking at the workshop, The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural development, Mrs. kikelomo Bolarinwa charged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunities provided by the empowerment programme to turn around their businesses, contribute to increased food production and transform the economic fortune of the State.The Director/CEO, CERUD Mr. Muyiwa Balogun also charged the participants not to see the empowerment as freebies to be wasted, pointing out that the government will be motivated to do more if the beneficiaries made judicious use of the opportunity provided by the administration of Mr. Babajide Olushola Sanwo OluThe beneficiaries, who were provided with fingerlings, fish feeds, fish tanks, and smoking kiln thanked Mr. Babajide Olushola Sanwo Olu for his love and support for the youths and farmers in the state promising the opportunity provided by the training and empowerment programme will not be wasted.

CERUD Aquaculture (Fish) Training program

It is the CERUD Aquaculture (Fish) Training program held on Thursday, 18th January 2024 at Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat Hall Opposite General Hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The Program Trained a total of 250 rural youths in Fish breeding, Raising, Harvesting, Processing and Marketing.
50 of the Trainees were also empowered with fishing items such as Plastic Tanks, Fish floating feed, fishing net etc

We Are Committed To Food Availability

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Yekinni ‘Lanre-Agbaje has expressed the determination of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration to ensure that food is available to the residents of Lagos through various agricultural support programmes.

Dr Agbaje made this known while leading a team of management staff of the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD) on a knowledge sharing tour of Erikorodo Farm Estate in Ikorodu. The Special Adviser harped on the need to strengthen CERUD for increased capacity in order to contribute more meaningfully to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s THEME+ Agenda.

Speaking further, Dr Agbaje opined that the knowledge gained from the visit and the observed farming models will be adopted by CERUD in order to enhance her productive capacity, provide innovative training models for farmers and other critical rural stakeholders, and to serve as a tourist spot for qualitative agricultural research for both local and international researchers.

LAGOS PLEDGES SUPPORT TO FARMERS

The Lagos State Government has pledged her support to farmers in Lagos State as critical partners in the socio-economic development of the state. Speaking to All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in his first official visit to the farmers, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Yekini ‘Lanre-Agbaje reiterated the commitment of Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to running an inclusive Government that is ready to carry everybody along in the business of governing the State.

He stressed the readiness of Mr Governor to replicate whatever developmental stride that is recorded in the urban centres in the rural communities of the State to ensure even development in all parts of Lagos State. While explaining that the essence of his visit to AFAN is to assess the needs of the farmers in the State, Dr Agbaje promised to use his office to provide maximum support to the association in its objective of increasing food production and providing food security for Lagos State.

The chairman of AFAN, Otunba (Dr) Femi Oke thanked the Special Adviser for his visit to the association, while also expressing gratitude to the governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for the immense support given to the farmers by the Lagos State Government. Dr Oke used the opportunity of the visit to present a list of demands of his association which include, the establishment of farm settlements to serve as  hub of socioeconomic activities in the agriculture value chain, creation of farmers markets to facilitate direct interaction between farmers and the consumers, thereby ameliorating the activities of middle men, provision of access roads to rural communities and farming centres, training and empowerment of farmers among other requests.

Responding to the demands of the association, Dr Agbaje promised to ensure that the message receives the attention of Mr Governor, while also imploring members of the association and farmers to continue to support the policies, programme and activities of the Government towards achieving the goal of food sufficiency, economic stability and a more abundant life to the citizens of Lagos State.
