…Equips Residents with Bread and Pastries Production Skills
As part of its sustained commitment to empowering residents across the five divisions of the State, the Lagos State Government, through the Office of Rural Development and its agency, the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), has continued its skills acquisition and empowerment programme aimed at promoting financial independence and economic prosperity.
The latest edition of the programme, held at the Lafiaji Community Centre, Obalende, Lagos Island, focused on Bread and Pastries Production.
Participants received intensive practical training and were subsequently presented with production tools to enable them establish and grow their own businesses.
Delivering his keynote address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, stated that Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to empowering communities is anchored on his vision of making Lagos State a 21st Century Economy.
According to Dr. Agbaje, the Governor’s developmental agenda extends beyond individual empowerment to the provision of critical rural infrastructure, including feeder roads, electrification and potable water, all of which have significantly enhanced the growth of micro and small-scale enterprises in rural communities.
He further disclosed that over the past seven years, the State Government’s consistent investments in empowerment and infrastructure development have contributed immensely to reducing rural-urban migration by creating sustainable economic opportunities within local communities. He noted that the current empowerment initiative is another demonstration of the administration’s unwavering commitment to improving the livelihoods of residents of several communities across the State.
In her special remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, reaffirmed Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to building the Lagos of everyone’s dreams. She encouraged participants to pay close attention during the training sessions, describing the programme as a life-changing opportunity capable of improving their standard of living and securing their economic future.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of the Centre for Rural Development, Mr. Musibau Balogun, expressed appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for consistently supporting initiatives that positively impact the lives of residents. He urged participants to maximise the opportunity by acquiring the skills diligently and applying them productively after the training.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Adegbite Oshodi expressed gratitude to the Governor for his continued concern for the welfare of ordinary citizens and his deliberate efforts to cushion prevailing economic challenges through empowerment initiatives.
She assured the government that beneficiaries would make effective use of the equipment provided to improve their livelihoods while contributing meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the State.
The well-attended programme forms part of several empowerment initiatives being implemented by the Centre for Rural Development to enhance the quality of life of residents and promote sustainable socio-economic development across Lagos State.
