The Lagos State Government has pledged her support to farmers in Lagos State as critical partners in the socio-economic development of the state. Speaking to All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in his first official visit to the farmers, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Yekini ‘Lanre-Agbaje reiterated the commitment of Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to running an inclusive Government that is ready to carry everybody along in the business of governing the State.

He stressed the readiness of Mr Governor to replicate whatever developmental stride that is recorded in the urban centres in the rural communities of the State to ensure even development in all parts of Lagos State. While explaining that the essence of his visit to AFAN is to assess the needs of the farmers in the State, Dr Agbaje promised to use his office to provide maximum support to the association in its objective of increasing food production and providing food security for Lagos State.

The chairman of AFAN, Otunba (Dr) Femi Oke thanked the Special Adviser for his visit to the association, while also expressing gratitude to the governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for the immense support given to the farmers by the Lagos State Government. Dr Oke used the opportunity of the visit to present a list of demands of his association which include, the establishment of farm settlements to serve as  hub of socioeconomic activities in the agriculture value chain, creation of farmers markets to facilitate direct interaction between farmers and the consumers, thereby ameliorating the activities of middle men, provision of access roads to rural communities and farming centres, training and empowerment of farmers among other requests.

Responding to the demands of the association, Dr Agbaje promised to ensure that the message receives the attention of Mr Governor, while also imploring members of the association and farmers to continue to support the policies, programme and activities of the Government towards achieving the goal of food sufficiency, economic stability and a more abundant life to the citizens of Lagos State.
