Lagos State Trains Residents on Household Chemical Production

In furtherance of the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Office of Rural Development, through its agency, the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), has continued its Year 2026 Training and Empowerment Programme for residents across Lagos State with a training on the production of household chemicals such as Izal, balm, liquid soap and other household products.

Delivering his keynote address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, reaffirmed Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to poverty alleviation and the creation of self-reliant citizens through skills acquisition and empowerment programmes, thereby advancing the administration’s vision of making Lagos State a 21st Century Economy.

Dr. Agbaje further disclosed that, to ensure the programme reaches residents across the State, Governor Sanwo-Olu approved that the training be held across the five divisions of Lagos State. He noted that the current edition was taking place at the Eti-Osa Local Government Secretariat.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for remaining steadfast in his commitment to building a 21st Century Economy through continuous investment in skills acquisition and empowerment initiatives.

She encouraged participants to maximise the opportunity provided by the programme by commercialising the skills acquired, thereby improving their livelihoods while contributing meaningfully to the economic development of Lagos State.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director, Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), Mr. Balogun Musibau, expressed appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for prioritising the economic empowerment of residents. He urged participants to make effective use of the knowledge and practical skills they would acquire during the training.

The training, facilitated by Dura Complete Natural Skincare, equipped 100 participants with practical skills in the production of household chemicals and related products, empowering them to become self-reliant entrepreneurs and active contributors to the socio-economic development of Lagos State.

Aishat Adekanmbi and Abdulrahman Aisha, some participants and beneficiaries at the training and empowerment programme, while speaking on behalf of all participants and beneficiaries, commended the efforts of the Governor in empowering men and women in Lagos State, stating that the training they have received would help them create wealth through the multiple streams of income that the training exposes them to.

LAGOS FARMERS GET BOOST IN MODERN LIVESTOCK TRAINING

In a bold step toward tackling Nigeria’s current food security challenge, the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD) has emphasized the importance of empowering grassroots farmers with modern agricultural techniques and innovative livestock management strategies.

At a one-day Livestock Training Workshop held at CERUD’s Igbodu, Epe Office Complex, the centre — in collaboration with the Rural Agriculture Department of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development — brought together farmers from across Lagos State to gain practical, hands-on experience in modern livestock production.

Speaking at the event, CERUD Director, Musbau Muyiwa Balogun, noted that the training was inspired by feedback from previous sessions and aimed at enhancing the capacity of local farmers to add greater value to the state’s food chain.

> “We deliberately focused on local breeds for this training to encourage their patronage and sustainability within our communities,” he explained.

Mr. Balogun commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Special Adviser on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekini Agbaje, and Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, for their consistent support in promoting rural development initiatives.

In her remarks, Mrs. Kosoko, Director of Rural Agriculture, noted that the program was designed to strengthen the skills of existing livestock entrepreneurs while encouraging new entrants into the sector.

> “Participants are being exposed to smart farming, organic agriculture, modern marketing, and production techniques — all aligned with current global trends,” she said, urging trainees to seek continued guidance and collaboration with CERUD.

Dr. Femi Oke, Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Lagos Chapter, applauded the state government and CERUD for their proactive efforts, calling for stronger collaboration between farmers and local government agricultural officers.

Also speaking, Olusola Ajisafe, Director of Public Affairs, encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained, noting that it would not only improve their livelihoods but also contribute to food sufficiency in Lagos State.

In a vote of thanks, Mr. Okewowo, Head of Procurement, advised trainees to put their new skills into productive use for community and personal growth.

Farmers from all five divisions of the state — predominantly members of AFAN — expressed their deep appreciation to the Lagos State Government and CERUD for what they described as a life-changing opportunity.

Participants received expert-led instruction and practical exposure in key livestock enterprises such as piggery, snailery, rabbitry, and sheep and goat rearing, capped off with a hands-on session at the Agric YES Farm in Araga, Epe With the energy and enthusiasm displayed at the event, one thing is clear: Lagos’ grassroots farmers are ready to take the livestock sector to the next level — fueled by knowledge, innovation, and community-driven growth.

LASG BRIDGES THE DIGITAL DIVIDE BETWEEN RURAL AND URBAN COMMUNITIES In line with the policy of promoting inclusivity as one of the cardinal objectives of the THEMES Plus Agenda of the Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration, the Lagos State Government through the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), has trained another set of youths in the rural communities of Epe, Ikorodu, Eredo and its environs on digital skills, branding and online marketing. Addressing participants at a one day training held in Igbodu, Epe, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Yekinni Lanre-Agbaje, stressed the determination of the current administration in ensuring the people of the rural communities in Lagos State are not neglected in the rapidly evolving global digital transformation and its attendant socioeconomic benefits. Dr Lanre-Agbaje opined that the training is aimed at equipping the participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them compete within the digital space, create a unique brand identity for their products and services, expand their market reach and to provide the leverage to attract massive clientele to their products and services for a higher turnover and improve earnings. He therefore charged the participants to be attentive, focused and cooperate with the facilitators in order to optimize the limitless opportunities that the training will avail them. Welcoming the participants to the training, Mr Musibau Balogun, the Director, CERUD, advised them to take advantage of the new skills that will be acquired during the training to expand the frontiers of their trades and businesses, improve their lives and livelihoods and contribute to the growth of the State’s economy. The training which was facilitated by Ikorodu News Network (INN), took the participants through various digital knowledge such as Niche Carving, Branding with Canva, Blog Creation and Online Marketing. LASG TRAINS, EMPOWERS RURAL COMMUNITY YOUTHS ON APICULTURE AND PURE HONEY PRODUCTION

Lagos State Government, through the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), has trained and empowered fifty (50) youths and farmers in the rural communities of the state on APICULTURE and pure honey production.

Welcoming participants to the one day workshop held at the CERUD office complex in Igbodu, Epe, the Director, CERUD, Mr Musibau Balogun said that the programme was put together to promote the productive engagement of the youths, and to explore sustainable alternative sources of income to the beneficiaries.

Expressing gratitude to the Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, through the Special Adviser on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Yekinni Lanre-Agbaje, for his passionate and unambiguous interest in the welfare of the youths and farmers in the State, Mr Balogun advised the participants to align their energies and interests with the vision of the Governor to be self reliant, financially stable, contribute to the State’s growing GDP and the rapid transformation of the State in line with the current administration’s desire to make Lagos a 21st Century Economy.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman, All Farmers Association (AFAN), Lagos State Chapter, Otunba Olufemi Oke charged the participants to make good use of the opportunity of the new skills acquired during the training to enhance their production and marketing capabilities in order to tap into the vast economic potentials that is available in the production of Pure Honey.

The facilitator of the training programme, Dr Saba Gbolahan Adekunle stressed further the therapeutic and cosmetics importance of pure honey which makes it to be in high demand both locally and internationally.

He also explained that Apiculture is relatively cost effective because of the little space that is required for its cultivation.

The participants were supplied with empowerment materials such as wooden beehives, protective clothes, head covers, smokers, hand gloves etc for the take off of their business.

The visibly elated beneficiaries thanked Mr Governor and the Special Adviser on Rural Development for their magnanimous gestures and they promised to make good use of the materials given to them

Fish Training &Empowerment Programme

The Centre for Rural Development (CERUD) is kick-starting the Y2025 human capacity building with aquaculture training and empowerment programme slated for Thursday, 24th April, 2025 at Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Secretariat
The programme which will be organized in all the five divisions of Ikeja, Lagos Island, Badagry, Epe and Ikorodu respectively is expected to draw youths and farmers from the rural communities and is aimed at training participants in modern techniques of fish production and management for greater outputs.
At the end of the training, participants will be supplied with empowerment materials such as fish tanks, fish feeds, smoking kilns etc to support their vocation.
